ADOPTION- Purpose and Performance

Having understood who you are in Christ Jesus and the rights and privileges that you have in him, the next step of discovery is purpose and performance. It is important to note that a child doesn’t get to choose the family he becomes born or adopted into. He just finds himself in that family. While we get to choose Jesus Christ as our saviour, the beautiful thing is long before the foundation of the earth was laid, God first chose us in himself before the foundation of the world.  The NLT version of Ephesians 1:5 says that God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. Even Jesus said to his disciples in John 15:16 that “you did not choose me but I chose you..”. Isn’t this amazing? We have been chosen in Christ Jesus

Jeremiah 1:5 says “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations” So long before we were conceived by our parents, we were conceived in the mind of God. Therefore, in the eyes of God, there are no mistaken children, only unprepared parents. So, it doesn’t matter the circumstances surrounding your birth, who your parents are, whether you were planned or not, whether you were born in wedlock or not, I want you to know that you are not a mistake before God. Yes, you are not an accident!

God prescribed every detail of our bodies. He deliberately chose our race, the colour of our skin, hair, height, etc. He left no detail to chance but planned it all for His purpose.

In Psalm 139: 13-14, David said: 

“You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvellous – how well I know it.”

Ephesians 2: 10 says:

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them”

God’s purpose for us precedes our formation. He created us for good works. These good works were prepared long ago that we should walk in. God expects that we discover our purpose and we walk in them. We talked of the fact that you were born into a family so no part of the body is insignificant. 1 Corin 12:13-27, We talked about the fact that you have been born in a family.  You know, Myles Munroe said something really profound: “Your life is not a divine experiment, but a project of providence to fulfill a purpose that your generation needs”

This statement changed my life! It was like an answer to a million and one questions I had in my mind. Stumbling upon this made me shed tears. I mean, just when I thought that nothing good could come out of my life, just when I thought that I was a coin tossed to and fro, some sort of game, here was God saying otherwise. It didn’t matter that I didn’t have everything figured out yet; that I didn’t understand so many things yet, it didn’t matter that I still had my struggles but from that moment, I was sure of one thing: “There was something more to my life than what I was seeing and experiencing. There was more!” and as I began to grow in the knowledge of him, I started seeing myself the way He sees me; I saw that I mattered to him; that His love for me predates my existence in this worId; that he had a purpose in mind when he made me; that the end was beautiful and He would take me there. In summary, I began to see how much He loves me.
