Children’s Day Special 2 – Say No to Drugs

Living in an environment where saying yes to drugs has been stereotyped as the new norm can be very disadvantageous but choosing to say NO is what makes you an original. You are an original don’t die a copy. 

Having had conversations with my peers (Children) explaining their views on drug abuse and to my greatest surprise, some believe that taking drugs is part of the activities of adulthood in the sense that they are sitting and waiting for days to pass by so they can be legally responsible to take drugs. Some of their comments made me ponder on what society has brought upon herself.  Everything around us speaks of drug abuse; Tv shows, movies, music etc. Building a generation where minds are trained to align to the use of drugs as evidence of maturity is very bad. These misconceptions continue to spread rapidly amongst adolescents and if not corrected and defeated might lead to the destruction of generations coming.

I speak to say NO to drugs, I do not speak as a novice, I speak as one who knows and has seen the capabilities of drug abuse.

A lot of people give the justification of “I act this way because of the people around me”. As children of God in as much as the society plays a part in shaping our lives we must be intentional in making sure that the word of God is the loudest voice in our heart and Christ Jesus is our perfect example. 

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Hebrews 12:2 KJV

Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children.

Ephesians 5:1 NLT

Saying YES to drugs comes with a million and one disadvantages which include; hurting the people you claim to love, when people are high on drugs they tend to hurt people around them, physically, emotionally and socially etc and when they become sober tend to forget all they’ve done. There are so many people looking up to you don’t hurt them, you are a love child of a love God. 

 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

1 Corinthians 13:7 NLT

Endure the pressure, speak God’s word to your circumstances and you will find.

Most people (adult) don’t know how much of an influence they are on children, there might be a lot of children who look up to you as mentors whom they see as pacesetters; setting the pace for them to follow.

Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

Colossians 4:6 KJV

This is why it is important to mind your words and actions when dealing with children, I must say children tend to pick details of words spoken. 

As a child, if I am to picture my future and my environment being the mirror, hmmm…, But setting my life based on God’s word, his Spirit and experiences from men that have fallen victim to drug abuse, I am almost certain that the choice to abuse drugs is not the right path. 

I believe that everyone who desires change should be the change they want to see. I desire to change I am living in my change.  I am not shy to engage my peers in drug abuse conversations, discouraging them in every possible way I can, and sharing my experiences but above all, I believe that Jesus is my strong and solid foundation and He will continue to help me in my resistance and assertive journey. I will keep on praying and doing whatever God lays in my heart for a drug-free generation and I urge everyone who can read this to join me in the journey of praying and working for a drug-free generation. Change begins with you, it begins with me, it begins with everyone. I say NO to drugs and will always say NO. If you do drugs it’s never too late to quit and live a better and healthier life, so if you have said YES to drugs say NO today!
